We'll let you know when they officially go out.

February 19 Update
about 4 years ago – Wed, Feb 19, 2020 at 08:31:06 PM

Just want to keep you all in the loop about progress being made on the line. Sometimes things get busy, but I promise not to turtle down on you. If you have questions, I try to read the comments here often, and if you want a faster answer, you can always reach me at [email protected]

I have a rough layout done for both sets of cards — complete with nearly all of the art — and they look pretty sharp. I've added stats on the back, much like Monte Cook Games does with their various monster and character decks for the Cypher System. That way they're useful for building encounters on the fly as well as for serving as simple visual aids.

The adventure came in a little short, so we're going to be adding a bit to that. We might throw in the short story it's based on ("The Job Never Ends"), or we might expand it quite a bit. Or maybe a bit of both.

The Player's Guide is nearly done. I just need to hammer out a few details with Monte Cook Games, but they're wildly busy at the moment. Speaking of which, you should check out their Kickstarter for the new edition of Monte's legendary Ptolus setting

On top of that, I'm considering moving fulfillment for the PDF parts of this campaign to DriveThruRPG. That would require you to set up an account there, although I'm sure many of you already have one. The benefit is that those items would then be part of your permanent DTRPG collection, and you could access them at any time. I'll continue to post Dropbox links on delivery for those who don't want to bother with that, but Dropbox links expire, while DTRPG accounts do not.

Anyhow, work on the Pathfinder conversion is moving along, Jeremy is planning to dive into the comic book later this year, and we're waiting till toward the end to assemble the art book.

One thing I forgot to mention entirely last time around is the Monster Folio, which we've now titled Monsters & Mean Streets. My son Marty turned in the text for this a while back, and the ever-able Alana Abbot edited it. I have a rough layout of it complete. Most if not all of the art has arrived in black-and-white versions, and the colored versions have started to come in too.

On top of all that, Shotguns & Sorcery: The Omnibus released to the public yesterday, and you can read the details about that on my website. If you enjoyed it, please tell your friends and neighbors they can now get copies for themselves. And if you want a hard copy for yourself, those are available for ordering or pre-ordering now too.

Thanks for all your support!

Shotguns & Sorcery Returns Home
about 4 years ago – Fri, Feb 07, 2020 at 10:22:31 PM

Hi, Folks! This is Matt Forbeck, creator of Shotguns & Sorcery. I just had Outland add me as a collaborator on this Kickstarter — a function that wasn't available back when it was launched — and now I can reach out to you all directly.

Some of you might have already seen the announcement, but the Shotguns & Sorcery RPG license with Outland has expired, and the rights have reverted to me. My company, Full Moon Enterprises, will be publishing the game from this point forward.

This is an amicable parting. Despite the delays, I've been rooting for Outland every step of the way and wish them all the best in everything else they do. As part of that, Full Moon is helping Outland wrap up the last bits of its Kickstarter obligations, and Jeremy Mohler — CEO of Outland — plans to continue to provide his amazing artwork for the game.

Look for a public release of Shotguns & Sorcery: The Roleplaying Game in PDF and POD formats this spring — after the last of you backers get your copies. I don't plan to put the game into traditional distribution, so don't go hunting for it in stores. It'll be sold direct to gamers like you instead.

Now, I don't have direct control over the shipping of physical rewards. That's still up to Outland. As I understand it, there's one more wave of core RPG books going out to international backers this month, and that should be it for those types of rewards.

Going forward, this campaign still needs to produce:

  • The Pathfinder conversion
  • The Player's Guide
  • 20 printable character cards
  • 20 printable monster/adversary cards
  • An adventure
  • A 22-page comic
  • The Art of S&S book

At the moment, here's where these each stand.

My son Marty is writing the Pathfinder conversion. I've approved an outline, and it looks good. Despite the fact Pathfinder has upgraded from 1st to 2nd edition since the launch of this Kickstarter, we decided to produce the conversion for 1st edition. We debated about this for a long time, but it came down to one fact. The 1st-edition conversion is what was promised, so that's what we need to deliver.

The Player's Guide is essentially going to be the first three parts of the core rulebook, a way for players to have the basic rules on the cheap, without having to shell out for the whole book. I've generated a PDF of this that's just about ready to go. Jeremy asked if he could tweak the colors on the existing artwork we have for the cover, to make it even better, and he says he'll have that to me soon. Once it's good to go, I'll deliver it to you.

I have artwork in hand for all 40 cards. The original plan was to simply provide those as a printable PDF, but it seems to me that they'd be more useful if we put some game information on the backs, much like Monte Cook Games has done with their own decks of cards. That'll slow things down for a bit, though, as I boil down all that stuff into something that can fit on the back of a card. If you have a strong opinion on this — like "Yes! Do that!" or "No! Don't waste your time! Give cards now!" — let me know how you feel.

The text for the adventure is done. Marty wrote it based on an outline I provided him. I have a bunch of artwork in hand for it as well, and I'm going to start layout on it soon. Jeremy is hopefully going to provide a cover for that too.

I turned in a completed script for the comic to Outland, and now it's up to Jeremy to provide the artwork. I know it's high on his list of things to do, but it's a lot of art to produce, so he's going to have to chip away at it as best he can.

Speaking of art, for obvious reasons, we need to wait until the art for all these various projects is complete — except for perhaps the comic — before we assemble The Art of Shotguns & Sorcery. That should be the last bit fulfilled.

Meanwhile, Full Moon Enterprises is also releasing the ebook and POD editions of Shotguns & Sorcery: The Omnibus — a collection of all the existing Shotguns & Sorcery stories and novels, plus a brand new novelette — on February 18. Pre-orders are already available on many of your favorite ebook sites.

I know most of you got an earlier version of the Omnibus already, but I want you to have the latest one too. I recently went through the text, corrected a few typos, and generated brand-new, cleaned-up versions of the ePub, Mobi, and PDF files for the book. I'll be sending out a link for that shortly.

Whew! I know that's a lot to digest, but I hope the news makes you happy. There's still a lot of work ahead of us, but we're dedicated to getting it all done and in your hands as soon as possible.

If you need further information, please contact me at [email protected]. I'll stop in here and read comments every so often, but I don't know if Kickstarter will notify me about them or not, so that might be iffy. The surest way to reach me is email.

Thank you for your support!
